Mehmet Refik Mas

In 1987, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Refik Mas graduated from the Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) with the title of medical doctor. Between 1990 and 1994, he completed his specialization training in Internal Medicine at the same institution. In 1997, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Istanbul University, Çapa Faculty of Medicine.

In 1998, he conducted studies in hepatology and gastroenterology at St. George’s Hospital, London University, England, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Tim Northfield. Between 2002 and 2004, he completed his specialization in Basic Hepatology at the Hepatology Institute of Ankara University. In 2002 and 2005, he worked at RWTH University Hospital in Germany with Prof. Dr. Axell Gresner on liver stellate cell culture techniques and liver fibrosis.

From 2004 to 2006, he served as Head of the Geriatrics Department at GATA. In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Professor and pursued subspecialty training in geriatrics within the Department of Internal Medicine at GATA.

After retiring from GATA in 2011, he established the Department of Geriatrics at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine. During the same period, he served as Acting Head of the Intensive Care Unit in the Department of Internal Medicine, as Chief Physician of the Dokuz Eylül University Research and Application Hospital (2012–2015), and held various positions on the university’s administrative boards.

Between 2011 and 2015, he was Chairman of the Board of the Turkish Geriatrics Foundation. He has participated in numerous national and international scientific congresses and symposiums as a participant or speaker.

From 2019 to 2021, he served as the Founding Rector of the International Alasia University. Since 2021, he has been working as a specialist in internal medicine, geriatrics, and hepatology at Kolan British Hospital, while also serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Alasia University.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Refik Mas continues his academic work and patient consultations at Kolan British Hospital.
